You might be someone with mostly positive stories to tell: a serene family life, great friends, exciting achievements at school, university, or work, a wonderful relationship with someone you love. Others may have different ones, mostly negative.
We all carry our stories as baggage whose content is conscious, unconscious, or sometimes locked in denial.
What really matters is our position toward the past. For some people, the past represents a “secure base.” A place where they can protect themselves from suffering or frustration. A place where they can take refuge to escape from their real life. The stories of their past protect them from the difficult times they might experience in life.
